SMILE-FX / Miramar / Understanding proposed IPR
What IPR changes between neighbouring teeth
IPR means interproximal reduction. It reduces enamel between teeth to narrow them. Enamel does not regenerate, so that enamel change is permanent. The intended movement of teeth is a separate part of the orthodontic plan.

At SMILE-FX in Miramar, board-certified orthodontists see every patient, including follow-ups. The practice provides full-service orthodontics with a digitally driven clear-aligner focus. That doctor-first relationship gives the proposed step a clinical context: the orthodontist explains its contribution to the individual plan. The full care model is linked below.

Enamel change and intended movement
Enamel between neighbouring teeth
Intended movement of a whole tooth
The change is to enamel on the facing sides
Picture two neighbouring teeth side by side. Their facing sides are the between-teeth location. IPR reduces enamel at those surfaces, changing the teeth's width.
Changing width differs from moving a tooth
The enamel change concerns the tooth's surface; movement concerns its position. Both can contribute to the same plan. Later movement does not replace reduced enamel, so the permanent enamel change remains distinct from the intended final position.
The purpose explains the proposed contribution
Creating room is one purpose described for IPR; reshaping teeth is another. The purpose supplied in an individual proposal explains what that step is intended to contribute. In a room-making explanation, the enamel change and the intended alignment remain distinct parts of the plan. The next chapter develops those purposes and a stated alternative.

A plain-language fictional proposal and interpretation
Fictional setting: an adult is reviewing a proposed orthodontic plan before deciding. The clinician has identified two neighbouring teeth in the discussion.
Supplied proposal: reduce enamel between the identified neighbouring teeth to create room. The wider plan separately intends to move the teeth into planned positions later.
Completed interpretation: the proposed permanent change is to enamel on the facing sides of those teeth. Creating room is its stated contribution to the wider plan; moving the teeth remains a separate intended change. Making room would not itself mean the intended movement had happened, and later movement would not restore the reduced enamel.
